The recording of The Dark side of the Croon

Brian 'The Beagle' Goodwin-Producer
I was working on some demos for Pickety Witch in Tangent Studios near Marble arch back in '65 when I came across these tapes.I tried to get hold of the guys to say I'd be really interested in producing it if they ever decided to continue the project. And here we are, some fourteen years later and it's been a privilege to work with these guys throughout that time. The results are a combination on my knowledge and their choice of biscuit. You can almost taste the sap of the damp timbers of the studio in every track. It was also my idea to put brass on it, not Nile Wilson, the engineer.
Piecing it together
The tricky part was transferring those crude original recordings to Digital then back to analogue then digital again, then maybe back to analogue, time fugs the brain. The equipment was initially primitive but with my expertise we managed-through many long nights- to finally get something we could work from. Perry also had a C-90 cassette of some wild tracks but he couldn't find it. When J and P cleared their Great Grandfathers house of all the junk and worthless tat they found this 8 track. Sadly it was broken, it wouldnt have been any use anyway, they stopped selling the cartidges in 1980.

Employing the best
